The students at PS 67 are middle school aged and excited to have a college-aged mentor they can be with weekly for an hour. 77% of children in NYC’s chronically under-resourced public schools come from low-income communities. SUMMARY:Psychological Services Center (PSC)
DESCRIPTION:The Psychological Services Center currently provides services to members of LIU Post community\, but also serves families and individuals from the outside. The Center also has special programs for at-risk and/or underserved families and senior citizens. Interested students could volunteer time at the Center to support these programs and their participants. The volunteer positions include: cleaning/organizing toys\, games and art supplies for expressive therapy program; supervising children in the waiting room while a parent receives psychotherapy; assisting isolated mentally ill older adults with internet navigation of social websites; assisting in social skills training provided by a graduate student therapist with clients suffering from social anxiety disorders; assisting with outreach by distributing brochures at community locations; transcribing oral histories provided by older adults\, seriously medically ill clients and 9/11 first responders as part of a legacy project; serving as a PSC receptionist during evening clinic hours when families typically are available for services. \nClick Here to Volunteer\n  \n  \nClick here
