The Psychological Services Center currently provides services to members of LIU Post community, but also serves families and individuals from the outside. The Center also has special programs for at-risk and/or underserved families and senior citizens. Interested students could volunteer time at the Center to support these programs and their participants. The volunteer positions include: cleaning/organizing toys, games and art supplies for expressive therapy program; supervising children in the waiting room while a parent receives psychotherapy; assisting isolated mentally ill older adults with internet navigation of social websites; assisting in social skills training provided by a graduate student therapist with clients suffering from social anxiety disorders; assisting with outreach by distributing brochures at community locations; transcribing oral histories provided by older adults, seriously medically ill clients and 9/11 first responders as part of a legacy project; serving as a PSC receptionist during evening clinic hours when families typically are available for services.
