    Aphasia Center on Post Campus

    Friday, January 1, 2016 - Saturday, December 31, 2016

    Therapy opportunity for LIU Post graduate students and a small group of undergraduate students, to observe and/or participate as “helpers'” during the semester. The undergraduate students perform such tasks as making coffee, helping to keep the area neat, and overall assisting in any way they can, in order to also observe the group speech therapy sessions that are being conducted.

    Center on Community Inclusion

    Friday, January 1, 2016 - Saturday, December 31, 2016

    The Center on Community Inclusion at LIU Post is dedicated to providing resources to school districts, service providers and families so that individuals with disabilities will meet with success in inclusive environments. The CCI offers a variety of programs to the community including: intensive autism training for professionals in the special needs field, programs that build family bonds and communication, and workshops that build independence, confidence, and skills in individuals with special needs.

    Since 1971, a community of Brooklyn neighbors, volunteers, and friends who share a common vision to help those who are less fortunate has supported CHiPS. We prepare hot, nutritious meals and serve them to the hungry in a caring & respectful environment.

    Common Ground

    The Common Ground Service Learning Program at Long Island University’s Brooklyn Campus combines community service with academic instruction. It focuses on critical, reflective thinking and civic responsibility. The Program involves students in organized, community service that addresses local needs, while developing students’ academic skills and commitment to the community.

    Through our Community Fund, Donor Advised Fund Program, and strategic initiatives, Brooklyn Community Foundation seeks to mobilize people, capital, and expertise for a fair and just Brooklyn. Our unique approach has three components: first, we listen and engage the community; second, we build on what’s working, funding and supporting successful programs; third, we try new things, and when something works, we invest in its continued success. We partner with local leaders to identify and support proven models and accelerate bold new solutions.

These initiatives include the LIU Post Recycling Program and the Green Office Program.

    New York Cares

    New York Cares was founded by a group of friends who wanted to take action against serious social issues that faced our city in the late 1980s. Finding few options to help, they created their own organization to address the problems from the ground up. New York Cares is now the city’s largest volunteer management organization, running volunteer programs for 1,300 nonprofits, city agencies, and public schools.
